When it’s up to how to use LinkedIn to find a job, most of the answers on the internet are relatively generic and not practical, so it doesn’t help you solve your problem.
That’s why I’m going to show you some practical ways to quickly find a job using Linkedin. The following advice always worked for me in the past, so I hope it will work for you too.

Before I show you some useful tips and hacks, let’s go through the major LinkedIn profile setups to make sure it’s ready for your great actions!
Create a Strong LinkedIn Profile
First of all, I’m assuming that you have already optimized your LinkedIn profile, so it doesn’t look like you just created it.
Shortly, the most important parts of your LinkedIn profile are:
● Quality photo – set quality and professional profile and a background photo
● Headline – a sweet and short description of what you do and what’s your primary objective
● Career Summary – mention your previous experience, including keywords in your field
● Public Profile – make sure that everyone can see your profile
● Unique URL – change generic URL and include your name or brand in it
Make sure that your profile is polished before you start with any job finding action.
Keep Your Profile up to Date
You’re probably aware that LinkedIn accounts with a profile picture are much more likely to attract new profile visitors. The same story is for the LinkedIn users’ profiles that mention and include their skillsets.
While there are more than 45,000 skills to choose from on LinkedIn, if you strive to be more visible in LinkedIn search results, you should regularly update your skills, summary experience, and your profile in general.
Highlight and Optimize Your Experience
In case you’re actively engaging with connections and companies, some of them will probably visit your LinkedIn profile. Make sure to show your experience in the LinkedIn summary.
Here’s an example:
Find the right keywords and skills that your perfect companies are searching for to market and position yourself in LinkedIn’s search results.
Include those keywords in your descriptions of your past jobs to improve your chances of showing yourself to employers.
Besides the parts above, here are some strategies and hacks that could bring you a lot of benefits when using LinkedIn to find a job.
Let Others Know That You’re Looking for a Job
If you’re looking for a job, show that to employers and announce it. Drop it in your headline to intrigue them and make them come to your profile.
For example, if you’re a writer, include something like “Writer seeking businesses in need of a friendly ghost” it might catch a recruiter or hiring manager’s attention.
Now, you also have an option to show recruiters that you’re open to work. This option is on your LinkedIn profile.
Click on Get started and you’ll see a screen where you need to choose your job preferences. Choose the job title, location, who can see it, etc.
It will help your LinkedIn profile to get noticed by recruiters, and you could find a job faster.
Use the Advanced Search for a Job
According to the job role you’re looking for, all you have to do is just go to the job search, and type in what position you’re interested in.
For example, if you want to work as an Enterprise Sales Executive in California, type that in your search. Also, make sure to avoid the outdated ads by checking the last week’s ads for example.
I advise you first to start looking at companies where you would fit the best. If you have a LinkedIn Premium account, it will tell you how good of a match you are for the company amongst the applicants.
Don’t waste your time on jobs you have no chances at. Instead, look for the ones where you’re in the top 10% among applicants. That’s my recommendation.
Pick the ones that are most interesting for you, and apply for them! 💪
Ask for an Introduction and Connect With Employees
Once you find the companies that you’re interested in, ask some of your connections to introduce you to a person they’re connected to inside that company.
In case you have no connections to the company’s employees, you can easily start making them NOW.
In the jobs search results, just click on Add below the Connections segment.
It will show you the company employees that you can introduce yourself to and ask for help.
Many of those people will feel flattered that you contacted them and will gladly make introductions or give you some valuable advice if anything.
Research the Companies You’re Interested in and Follow Them
To keep up to date on brand news and hiring offers of your interest companies, make sure to follow their page on LinkedIn.
When you start following companies on LinkedIn, you’ll get notifications when your interest companies post new job offers. This way, you can be one of the first to apply for the job.
Use Job Alerts
This LinkedIn job search feature can help you in your long-term employment endeavor. All it takes is searching for a job position using LinkedIn’s job search feature. Once you’re finished searching and filtering, click on the Job Alert button above the results.
Click on this button to set up in a new window whether you want to get notifications to your account, email, or even both when a job that matches your search criteria comes up.
Note: Make sure to set this search alert as much as specific, with all the details included (location, time, experience, industry) and everything fit for your ideal position.
Get Involved in LinkedIn Professional Groups
Searching for the right keywords on Linkedin can help you identify LinkedIn groups in your area, enabling you to meet other professionals, expand your network, show your expertise, and even connect with the people in the companies you want to work in.
Search the right keyword on Linkedin to identify Linkedin Groups in your area. These groups provide an opportunity to expand your network, show your expertise, and even connect with the company employees inside companies you wish to work for.
When researching groups, you should be part of the groups with recent activity, otherwise, you’re just wasting your time if there’s no regular interaction. When you’re searching for something, click on the More to find Groups related to that search keyword.
There, you’ll find different professional LinkedIn groups organized around your searched term(e.g., Content Marketers). It can be a specific profession, a general industry, a company, or anything with the potential to link people together in their search for jobs.
Being in those groups can help you get some news and tips on the area you’re interested in or to make some new connections. This is a great way of connecting with the company insiders or people in your profession.
These new connections also may share job opportunities or help you get the job by referring you in the future. Make sure to use this option well.
Get LinkedIn recommendations and endorsements
A strong recommendation from the people who have worked with you helps you displaying that you are a great employee and a colleague. Reach out to your past colleagues or managers to get recommendations from them.
If you want a recommendation that will make you stand out in your profession, tell them why you need the recommendation – they’ll probably be glad to help you get what you want.
Endorsements are another great source of highlighting your skills in front of employers.
An effective way to gather up some of the endorsements is by going through the connections you know and trust and endorsing them for their skills. They’ll also do that favor for you – trust me. 😉
Research Your Future Company, Boss, and the Team
Before going to an interview, make sure to research the company, boss, hiring managers, and interviewers to find out about their likes, interests, and more. You might create a chance later and use this information during the interview to create relatability and show that you know about them and you’ve done your homework.
Be Active on LinkedIn and Engage With Your Connections
It’s important to be active, authentic, and current on LinkedIn. If you have a LinkedIn profile, but you never post anything, it’s like you don’t exist. For this reason, post the articles you write or find valuable reading them, videos you created, and so on.
You can also interact with others on LinkedIn by commenting on their posts and showing your expertise. The more you interact with other LinkedIn members, the more you’ll be noticed by others, so employers will find you easier.
For example, what you can share is:
- an article that adds value to your network
- an update offering help or advice
- asking a question that helps you get responses
- a photo with a witty caption
This task uses you only 20 minutes per day, but many LinkedIn users are unwilling to do it. It’s not difficult, and you can do it on a bus, going home from the gym, or while waiting in a lobby.
How to Use LinkedIn to Find a Job by Scraping
